International Marconi Day 2016

This year’s Marconi Day will be on Saturday 23rd April 2016.

It is unfortunate that this year we will be remembering one of the founders of the International Marconi Day, Norman Pascoe G4USB (SK February 2016).  For the Telford Club Norman was particularly helpful in us getting the 2013 special callsign of GB100TMD to celebrate the opening of the station back in 1913, it was Norman who suggested over a QSO at the start of the 2012 IMD that we should do it, and with his help – and that of OFCOM the call was duly issued.  Thank you Norman, we will remember you this year in particular.

TDARS will be travelling to our site on the West coast of Wales to Tywyn.  Here was the receive only station for the Marconi Company, the transmitting site being some miles to the North in Waunfawr just outside of Caernarfon.

Arriving after midday on Friday 24th April at Marconi Bungalows Field, LL36 9HN International Marconi Day takes place on Saturday 23rd April from 00:00utc until 23:59 UTC, before packing up and departing Sunday morning. It is now customary to stop off for breakfast in a café on the way home – so how about it?

Previous years have been great fun, and it is great to be the operator that everyone wants to speak with rather than trying to reach that operator. The camaraderie on site is light hearted and we try to make it interesting and informative for all who arrive, whether as an operator or a spectator you will be made welcome.

If you are staying over, then please we do not provide food / accommodation / facilities. Please arrange everything that you need including your chair. We can provide a patch of grass for you to put your tent up (no charge) if you like.

Any questions or queries please contact John M0JZH either at the club or via

Many thanks – look forward to seeing you there.
